Advantages:
* Low operating costs once construction is complete on commercial projects.
* Can be constructed and utilized on a small scale by individuals.
* Sustainable renewable energy source due to the rain cycle.
Disadvantages:
* Potential damage to local ecosystem and quality of water.
* Huge cost for construction on commercial scales especially if large amounts of the terrain have to be restructured.
* Only useful near bodies of water making it unable to power large parts of the world due to distance issues.
